Spruce Up Canned Green Beans

If you are like me, you have a bunch of canned vegetables in your pantry. I am always looking for way to spruce them up and this recipe from Food.com is one of my favorite ways to make green beans. Of course if you have fresh or frozen you can use them as well.

The only things I do different are as follows:
  1. I drain them and wash them off before heating them up. That gets rid of a lot of the salt and some of the "canned" flavor. When heating them up in the pan, I replace the juices with 1/4 cup of chicken broth. (Of course you don't have to take this step. I am just sharing how I do it.)
  2. I add two or three Tablespoons of the Parmesan cheese instead of only one.
    3.  I sprinkle some canned french-fried onions on top.  They give an awesome taste and texture and they give me that green bean casserole everyone makes at Thanksgiving vibes.

I have been cooking for friends and family for over 20 years. I am not a culinary school trained chef, it is just my true passion. No matter what curve balls life has thrown at us, I have always managed to cook comforting, satisfying meals no matter where we lived or what tight budget we were on. I hope that my recipes and budget tips will help others who love to cook realize they can still make incredibile meals in these challenging economic times we are living in.
