I am not a big sweet eater for breakfast but when I am, cheese danishes are what I crave. I mean, say cheese is in anything and you have me from hello! My mom and sister love them as well so it was a no-brainer to make them when I visited them a couple of weeks ago.
The hardest part of this recipe is you have to wait 60 minutes for it to bake and cool! The best part it only takes less than 10 minutes to assemble. While it is in the oven, take this opportunity to grab yourself a hot cup of coffee, check out the morning news or your emails and enjoy the relaxation before everyone wakes up and the chaos of the day begins.
Mar and Mom, this post is dedicated to you. XoXoXoXo
Cream Cream Danish Recipe
Ingredients:
2 cans ready to use refrigerated crescent rolls
2- 8oz. pkg of cream cheese
1 c sugar
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 egg
1 egg white
(Tip: The egg white is to brush over the pastry to achieve that golden brown color. If you don't feel like dealing with beating the egg white to make it spreadable, you can brush milk on the top instead to get pretty close to the same result. I do it often when I am feeling a little lazy.)
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350* degrees and spray a 13X9-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
2. Lay a pack of crescent rolls the (whole sheet, don't break them apart) in the pan and pinch the seams together.
3. Beat the cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, and egg together until smooth. Spread the mixture over the crescent rolls evenly. (If the cream cheese is truly at room temperature, you can mix this together with a spoon and don't need to break out and electric mixer. There may be a couple of small lumps but to me it just adds yumminess to the texture.)
4, Lay the second pack of crescent rolls on top of the cheese mixture and brush with egg white or milk
5. Bake for 35-45 minutes until the top is golden brown. Top with glaze after cooling for 20 minutes.
Lemon Glaze Recipe
Ingredients:
4-6 tablespoons of lemon juice (about 1-2 large lemons)
2 cups of powdered sugar
Instructions:
1. In a medium-sized bowl, mix the powdered sugar and the lemon juice. Use a whisk to combine. If it looks too thin, add a little more powdered sugar. If it looks too thick add a little more lemon juice. You are looking for a consistency that is a little thick but thin enough to be pourable.
2. Spread or drizzle glaze over cooled danishes.
Tip: If you don't feel like dealing with the glaze, you can just sift some powdered over the top. It will still be delish! I love that pop of lemon though and think it adds so much to the dish.
